Gastrointestinal or genitourinary smooth muscle spasms
Dosage
Adults: 40–80 mg orally 2–3 times daily
Children: Usually 1–2 mg/kg/dose orally, 2–3 times daily (use only under medical supervision)
Maximum daily dose: 240–240 mg/day depending on indication
Note: Dose should be individualized based on response. Use caution in elderly and those with liver impairment.

Mechanism of Action
Drotaverine inhibits phosphodiesterase-4, increasing cAMP levels in smooth muscle, leading to relaxation of gastrointestinal, biliary, renal, and uterine smooth muscles, without affecting normal peristalsis.

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to drotaverine
Severe hypotension
Obstructive uropathy

Precautions
Use with caution in patients with liver disease
Monitor blood pressure in patients prone to hypotension
Avoid rapid IV administration to prevent hypotension
Drug Interactions
Other hypotensive agents – may enhance blood pressure lowering
Antiarrhythmics – monitor cardiac function
Pregnancy & Lactation
Use only if clearly needed; safety in pregnancy and breastfeeding not well established.
